These resources are invaluable for staying up-to-date with the latest curriculum and materials. For the years 2019 and those prior, you can still make use of the content for its work quality, innovative ideas, and sources of inspiration. Sharing a set of work from Academic Year 2020-21(Online teaching&learning) : Year 9 (Grade 9) introducing to the style of prep work IGCSE

Dear all,

Today, I will share a set of samples from my talented student, Nyla, when she was in Year 9. Now she is Year 10 student, and she is taking Art & Design IGCSE 0400. Glad she made the right decision! :)

She is talented and very teachable. All the work attached here were guided through online classes. When I look back on all her pieces, I am amazed by her efforts, dedication, and commitment to completing all the given tasks.

I'll brief the task set by set.

Term 1. Sept-Dec2020
'A person tighten up the shoelace'
(Painting and related media)

Term 1. Sept-Dec2020
'A person tighten up the shoelace'
(Painting and related media)

For the above planning, I could foresee that we won't conduct face-to-face at school for the entire term. I was extra careful when I planned this task. I chose past year questions from Art & Design IGCSE 0400 old syllabus. We always have pretty tight school weeks and in the calendar, guiding through the screen is not as easy as face-to-face learning. So I decided to focus on 2 preps and 1 Final Piece. I planned the Scheme of Work for Year 8 (but I don't teach this grade), and I only teach Year 9 onwards. We are proud to give them as much as they need for the basic foundation in art skills. E.g drawing, painting, mixing colours and all the required foundation. When the students come to me, Year 9, I'll train them on producing supporting studies and the Final Piece - depending on the academic weeks for the term.
In this task, students explored and experimented with various dry media, wet media, and coffee painting. Introducing them to how we prep IGCSE work is essential at this level, be it they are taking Art Igcse in the upcoming year or not, early exposure is necessary. The reference artist up there was from a local established artist, Amron Omar. Also, the students must use first-hand studies for the subject matter pictures. They submitted to me about 6 subject matter pictures of them tighten the shoelace.

Requirement Term I:
First-hand studies (subject matter pictures)
Artist Reference printed picture
Prep 1
Prep 2
Final Piece
Art Assignment - Worksheet on Artist's painting interpretation (screenshot as below)

Term II. Jan-March2021
Design: Front cover magazine design titled 'TiS Cafe' based on food or juice.
(Graphic Communication : Design 2D task)

Term II. Jan-March2021
Design: Front cover magazine design titled 'TiS Cafe' based on food or juice.
(Graphic Communication : Design 2D task)

For Term II, I decided to introduce them to Design type of work. Since we continue the online learning I planned, they can quickly gather and get first-hand studies (subject matter pictures) at home. So I decided to plan the Front Cover Magazine for our school, TiS Cafe (Tanarata International School), based on food or juice they eat and drink at home. The students need to submit to me the food or juice photos. No internet pictures are allowed. For Prep 1, the students print and paste the subject matter pictures. When we discuss the layout and such, the students will continue to research the Front Cover Design, and for this, they can submit to me the various front cover magazines they like from the internet. Prep 2, more on Font Studies and Tagline exploration and draw and paint another subject matter picture.
We don't have much time because I need to pace my guidance with the online teaching and learning, so I decided not to request the Final Piece. I guided the students for the 2 Idea Development at Prep 3. Not only that, I also planned for them to design and produce a mind-mapping as part of art assignment for this term.

Requirement Term II:
First-hand studies (subject matter pictures)
Front cover magazines from internet printed pictures
Design 1
Design 2
Art Assignment - Mind mapping on Design Elements (below is Nyla's mind-mapping)

Term III. April-July 2021
(for the Art lesson, only until end of June)
'Running Water'
(Painting and related media)

Term III. April-July 2021
'Running Water'
(Painting and related media)

In this Term III, I decided to continue with the Painting and related media type of work. Again, I chose a question from the past year IGCSE paper. The students, as usual, need to submit to me their first-hand studies pictures. They need to find and interesting objects as they explore the photoshoot with the running water at home. They learned Surrealism Art and the input that they had in that era. You can see the recopy of artist reference painting up there. Then, they took any elements or inspiration from Dali's work to the first subject matter studies exploration. At Prep 2, the draw/paint/apply mixed media adds another inspiration 'from Galatea of the Spheres'. Their outcome should show the surrealism elements.

Other studies at Prep 2 were to recall the Elements and Principle of Art and take the animal patterns from the internet and apply the contour line drawing based on another subject matter study.

We had concise weeks in this term, and as I said earlier, I need to pace my plan and lesson because doing art online can be challenging. I don't want students to suffer too. We took time in all weekly classes and tasks.

Requirement Term I:
First-hand studies (subject matter pictures)
Artist Reference printed picture
Prep 1
Prep 2
No Final Piece and Assignment given in this term. Focused more on the art techniques and Surrealism inspiration outcomes.

Dear Ms Freda. I am new to this syllabus and one of my students is planning to choose graphic communication. My question is If the student does a magazine cover design as component 1, and wants to do similar but with different topic in Cambridge exam, will that student receive a different exam paper related to graphic communication?

Apologies for the incorrect name Ms Feeda.
