BLOG INFORMATION

To access the BLOG ARCHIVE, please navigate to the right-hand side of your screen and scroll down to find it. When using the archive, be mindful of the references/resources organized by year. For the year 2020 onwards, you'll find references that are exclusively related to the new syllabus of 0400. These resources are invaluable for staying up-to-date with the latest curriculum and materials. For the years 2019 and those prior, you can still make use of the content for its work quality, innovative ideas, and sources of inspiration. These older references can be especially helpful for crafting ideas and guidelines to support your Component 2 ESA (new syllabus) endeavors.

Grade B Component 1 (Coursework) June2020 samples Art & Design IGCSE 0400.

Dear visitors,

Here is the Grade B Component 1 (Coursework) set for the Art & Design IGCSE 0400, June2020. It was a considerable challenge as half of it we're doing during face-to-face classes, and half of it was during the pandemic (online sessions).

The student managed to complete the work, and I am so proud of her work!

That's all from me today.
If you have any questions, email me, or share them at the chatbox on your right side.

Sharing the guideline of Component 2 (Externally Set Assignment ESA) Art & Design IGCSE 0400

Dear art educators, art students and parents,

I hope you are fine and safe wherever you are.

Thank you again for visiting my blog.

I hope my sharing here helps you prepare the work for the Art & Design IGCSE 0400 subjects.

I need to emphasize again that I don't teach As or A-Level IGCSE, and so sorry I can't help you much with that syllabus. You can always go to the Facebook page of Cambridge Art / Design AS/ A 9704, 9479 & IGCSE 0400 For Educators <-- many experienced teachers can help you there.

Here, I would like to share my guideline on HOW TO PROCEED WITH 'PAINTING AND RELATED MEDIA' art style for the COMPONENT 2 - EXTERNALLY SET ASSIGNMENT (ESA) (again, for the syllabus Art & Design IGCSE 0400 / syllabus 2020-2022).

If you are taking the June Exam, the ESA test paper will be uploaded at the Caie website on the 1st of January, and the October/November Exam will be on 1st July.

I will use the samples for my former student's work as I share how I guide my students for this component. I also will attach the suggestion for the layout that might help you to plan for your work.

*********************

PREP 1

Above are the few samples that you could guide your students in preparing the layout for Prep 1. I always request my students to share with me at least two potential drafts of Prep 1 layout. Alongside the draft, I will ask them to select the Subject Matter (SM) pictures they want to paste (as part of First-hand studies) as evidence. For which SM pictures they want to start for the Subject Matter studies (SM Studies) for most, I want them to explore the basic foundation first; experiment with various dry media in it. A lot of discussions is happening even for the early prep. This including which Artist Reference (AR) they want to select and research. I'll brief them during class about 'Artist Research' and 'How to select and choose relatable Artist Research'. Also, I'll give them the freedom to choose to attach the AR at Prep 1 or Prep 2. There is no specific fix layout of where they need to stick the AR exploration.

PREP 2

The same process with Prep 1 I shared earlier. Even so, Prep 2, I'll request the students to propose to me 2 potential layouts, and the discussion shall include the best SM pictures, SM Studies, and what possible media and techniques suit the selected pictures. The students will present a complete draft with what type of papers they plan to choose for the mixed media exploration. For Prep 2 onwards, I will emphasize more on experiment and exploration in various media. The media includes wet and dry media. It could be a combination of (any type) paint and charcoal. You can always plan with your students and ask them to think more about how to present the work in a pleasant and neat layout and the media used for each study.

PREP 3

The same process with Prep 2 I shared earlier. For the Prep 3 I'll request the students to propose to me 2 potential layouts, and the discussion shall include the best SM pictures, SM Studies, and what possible media and techniques suit the selected pictures. The students will present a complete draft with what type of papers they plan to choose for the mixed media exploration.

In Prep 3 (or any prep), the students can think of a creative arrangement to attach their SM pictures. Some can cut them according to their shape. Always encourage your students to think more about presenting the layout and not only think of the media used for each study. They can surprise you with the various creative arrangements, and I always love to discuss with each of them, even minor structures, because each process is for the learning process. Always pay attention to the ideas presented by your students.

PREP 4

Prep 4 is to focus more on what the students what combination of SM studies and media used towards the Final Piece. The students can redraw some of earlier studies and enlarge them accordingly for this layout. They also can experiment on media used in earlier exploration. The students also can sketch in an outline method to show what and how they want to combine the selected SM pictures or studies for the Final Piece. One of the ideas here will be the Final Piece selection later on.

FINAL PIECE

The final Piece arrangement can be slightly different from the Prep 4 selection. However, I won't encourage you to do another image from Prep 4. Remember, the work should show the flow of the development from the beginning to the end. For the Final Piece, with the 8 hours exam time frame, you can always do a prototype with your students, perhaps, a week before the exam dates. Discuss the media selection and give them tips for how long they should spend on the drawing before focusing on the details and finishing.

Annotation

I'll encourage my students to annotation the work but not be too wordy with the explanation. About 10-20% of the annotation at each prep will do. Do encourage your students to choose art terms in the annotation.

Artist Reference

For the ESA paper, I encourage students to do 1-2 artist(s) because they only present 4 preps (2 pages) so to me, 1-2 artist(s) will do.
