To access the BLOG ARCHIVE, please navigate to the right-hand side of your screen and scroll down to find it. When using the archive, be mindful of the references/resources organized by year. For the year 2020 onwards, you'll find references that are exclusively related to the new syllabus of 0400. These resources are invaluable for staying up-to-date with the latest curriculum and materials. For the years 2019 and those prior, you can still make use of the content for its work quality, innovative ideas, and sources of inspiration. These older references can be especially helpful for crafting ideas and guidelines to support your Component 2 ESA (new syllabus) endeavors.

Art & Design IGCSE 0400 New Syllabus 2020-22 - Coursework brief explanation

Dear art educators, parents and students,

I've received quite number of emails regarding confusion on how to plan towards new syllabus Art & Design IGCSE.

Below, I copy-paste my respond to some of the educators through email. You might want to go through as well if you are still confused on how to plan and design your Scheme of Work or Lesson Plan for your students.

COURSEWORK (PAPER 1)

Coursework consist 8 prep, A2 size back to back, so it'll become 4pages/pieces + 1 Final Piece

Topic for coursework as per suggested in CIE Art Resources Book, it can be in any topic, including Fine Art styles, Design Styles or any art discipline will do.

As for myself, I prepared various topics, about 20 topics/themes for my student to choose. I also took some from past year question from Paper1(old syllabus), but that's only 30%, another 70% I've created by myself.
If student insist to do their own theme, they can, but when you know they can carry the theme successfully. Somehow sometimes, students can be too ambitious. So, the teacher needs to monitor the selection of topic as well.

My suggestion,

if your school is taking June Series, your coursework should start at least 6 months earlier unless you know your students can do well even in a shorter time frame.

e.g

June Series 2020
Paper 1
(Coursework)

Paper 2
(Set Assignment)
timeline
Topic by teacher
8 prep + 1 Final Piece
Topic by Cambridge
Released on 1st Jan 2020
4 Prep + *1 Final Piece
*Final Piece (8hours)
 – student needs to be in an exam set up
- student needs to bring all the prep work inside exam room (or any room for the art) to refer to do the Final Piece
- some school breaks into 2 days
e.g 4 hours on Monday, another 4 hours on Tuesday

Suggestion to complete for the sake of quality for all 8 prep + 1 Final Piece –
June 2019 – Dec 2019

** if the students are okay with the time frame and their art skills are solid, the students can starts the 8 preps and all by July 2019- Dec 2020 as well.

***it will be great if we plan in such, we complete Coursework prep and Final Piece before we do Paper 2.

Since the question is up on website on 1st Jan 2020

Suggestion to complete 4 prep + 2 days of Final Piece exam –

Jan 2020 – early April 2020
